To help understand the differences between ‘Levels’ and ‘Grades’ with respect to Open Meets, below is a very simple guide to them

A Guide to the Levels and Grades

Level 1

Aimed at National qualifiers for girls aged 11 – 13 and boys aged 11 – 14.  They do not include 50m swims and are usually Long Course

Level 2

Aimed at National and Regional qualifiers for girls aged 11 – 13 and boys aged 11 – 14.  They do not include 50m swims.

Level 3

Aimed at Regional and County level swims, and can also be graded as ‘A’, ‘B’ and ‘C’, as well as Sprint Meets

Level 4

Intended for club swimmers, those beginning competition and those swimmers wishing to achieve a Regional qualifying time.

All of the above Levels are licensed.  Levels 1 – 3 have a minimum age requirement of 9 years; and Level 4 is for aged 8 and above

C Grade

National Rankings Lists

All times from Regional and National competitions together with those from Licensed Open Meets are included in a national database from which ranking lists are produced.
These can be viewed on the British Swimming website.

Derby Phoenix will also be invited to club galas, that are friendlies between us and other clubs in the Midlands region, but these are not usually licensed – so would not appear on the National Rankings Lists.  The swimmers for these galas are invited by the Head Coach based on the criteria for the gala.  Please also note that the Junior and National League galas are not licensed
